When Lesley and Johnny envisioned their wedding day, they sought an escape from the typical tropical themes. Their choice of La Pietra in Honolulu perfectly aligned with their desire for a Tuscan-inspired ambiance. This exclusive venue provided the ideal backdrop for their high-energy, elegant celebration filled with laughter and love.
A Love Story That Began During COVID
Lesley, a dynamic dental hygienist, and Johnny, a reserved yet lively police officer, first met during the pandemic. Johnny, then working as a server at Olive Garden, caught Lesley’s attention despite his face being partially covered by a mask. Encouraged by her maid of honor, Crystal, who was friends with Johnny, Lesley decided to give him her number through a mutual friend. That fateful connection led to a heartwarming relationship and eventually, their beautiful wedding at La Pietra.
An Elegant Setting with a Touch of Tuscan Charm
The couple’s wedding day was far from the typical Hawaiian tropical scene. Instead, it was a refined celebration with a Tuscan flair. La Pietra’s elegant, Italian-inspired architecture set the tone for the day. With a warm Hawaiian breeze and bright sunshine, the setting provided a perfect blend of sophistication and comfort. Guests traveled from across the globe, including China, the Philippines, and California, to share in this special occasion, and the thoughtful addition of fans kept everyone cool in the warm weather.
Classic Elegance and Personal Touches for their La Pietra Wedding
Lesley looked radiant in a fitted dress adorned with beading and lace, while her bridesmaids wore taupe pink floor-length gowns. Johnny and his groomsmen were sharp in black suits, creating a timeless and refined look. The wedding’s color palette—taupe pink, taupe, white, and terracotta—complemented the Tuscan-inspired decor and lush greenery, adding to the day’s elegant ambiance.
A meaningful aspect of the day was the private tea ceremony held at the groom’s family home, honoring Chinese tradition. This intimate ceremony, which symbolizes the merging of families and respect for elders, was a beautiful addition to their wedding festivities.
Celebrating with Joy and Tradition
The reception at Alohilani Resort was a lively continuation of the day’s elegance. Although the reception program was set to end by 9:30 PM, I extended my coverage to capture the money dance—a cherished Filipino tradition that holds great significance for Lesley and her family. It was essential to me to document this important moment and ensure the couple’s priorities were met.
One of the standout moments of the day was the bride’s father’s toast. His heartfelt speech, part of a family tradition dating back to 1991, had everyone laughing and celebrating. The joy and warmth of this moment were truly unforgettable.
