When Lesley and Johnny chose La Pietra for their wedding, they envisioned a space that embodied the timeless elegance of a winery wedding. Although their celebration took place in Honolulu, their stunning venue welcomed guests with a similar atmosphere to a renowned Sonoma County location, offering an exquisite blend of sophistication and vibrancy. From the Tuscan-inspired venue to the high-energy reception, this wedding was nothing short of spectacular.

Lesley and Johnny’s wedding day began at La Pietra. Known for its Tuscan ambiance, La Pietra provided the ideal backdrop for a celebration that balanced elegance with a touch of rustic charm. The venue’s picturesque architecture and lush greenery created a setting reminiscent of Napa's famed vineyards.
Lesley and Johnny wanted a venue with a classic, italian-like feel that avoided the typical tropical theme often associated with Hawaiian weddings. Just as Napa offers a vineyard experience with a refined twist, La Pietra’s design brought that same sophistication to Honolulu, making it a perfect match for their vision.
Before the festivities officially began, Lesley and Johnny honored his heritage with a private tea ceremony. This tradition, significant in Chinese culture, was held at the groom’s family home and served to introduce the families while showing respect and gratitude. It was a moment steeped in tradition, mirroring the reverence and elegance, where cultural touches are seamlessly woven into the day.
The tea ceremony was a beautiful precursor to the main event, setting the tone for a day that was as meaningful as it was beautiful. Lesley and Johnny’s commitment to incorporating their cultural heritage into their wedding showcased their deep respect for family traditions, adding a layer of personal significance that is often a highlight of culturally significant weddings.
As the guests arrived at La Pietra, they were greeted by a color palette that drew inspiration from classic tuscan vineyard weddings. Lesley looked stunning in a fitted dress adorned with beading and lace, reminding me of the sophisticated bridal styles often seen at vineyard themed weddings. Her bridesmaids complemented her look in taupe pink floor-length dresses, while the groomsmen wore sleek black suits with black ties.
The choice of colors—taupe pink, taupe, white, and accents of terracotta—embodied the timeless elegance associated with vineyards. This color scheme not only enhanced the venue’s ambiance but also added a touch of refinement to the overall aesthetic of the wedding.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to Alohilani Resort for the reception. Alohilani Resort’s chic and contemporary setting provided the perfect contrast to La Pietra’s Tuscan charm, creating a dynamic and exciting atmosphere for the evening’s festivities.
Lesley and Johnny’s reception was surrounded by high energy and laughter, reflecting their joyful personalities. The lively celebration included a special highlight: the money dance, a significant Filipino tradition that Lesley wanted to ensure was beautifully captured. Even though our coverage technically ended an hour earlier, I stayed late to ensure this moment was captured for them. Because it was a priority for the couple, it became my priority as well, ensuring that every aspect of the evening was preserved with the same meticulous attention to detail.
One of the standout moments of the evening was the bride’s father’s toast. Known for his sense of humor, he delivered a speech that had everyone laughing for a solid 30 minutes. This heartfelt and hilarious toast incorporated a family tradition dating back to 1991, making it the 15th time it had been given. The joy and laughter that filled the room were a testament to the close-knit nature of Lesley and Johnny’s families and added a personal touch to the celebration that is often seen at vineyard weddings where family bonds are celebrated with equal fervor.
As a photographer, my goal was to capture the essence of Lesley and Johnny’s wedding day with the same care and artistry that my couples expect from me. From the Tuscan-inspired setting at La Pietra to the high-energy reception at Alohilani Resort, my approach was to document each moment with elegance and attention to detail.
Something I'm so glad I did for them was extending my coverage to include the money dance, a crucial part of the evening for Lesley. By staying later to capture this significant cultural tradition, I ensured that the entire wedding experience was fully documented, reflecting my commitment to prioritizing my clients’ needs and desires.
Lesley and Johnny’s wedding was a beautiful blend of elegance and high energy. From the Tuscan charm of La Pietra to the vibrant celebration at Alohilani Resort, their day was a testament to their unique style and the love they share.
Their wedding was a perfect example of how a carefully chosen venue, thoughtful details, and personal touches can create a celebration that feels both timeless and fresh. If you’re inspired by the elegance and charm of Tuscan-themed weddings and are planning your own special day, I would love to help bring your vision to life.
